Description

A rich and creamy Philly Cheesesteak Dip that combines tender roast beef, melted cheeses, and sautéed peppers and onions, baked to bubbly perfection. Perfect as a hearty appetizer or party snack served with baguette slices, chips, or veggies.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat, sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped

Dairy and Cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams), room temperature
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, chopped into ¼ inch pieces (or substitute 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings and Garnish

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper, or to taste
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • Green onion, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375℉ and grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until lightly caramelized. Add chopped green bell pepper and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.
  3. Mix the Cheese Base: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone (or substitute cheese), stirring until evenly blended into a smooth mixture.
  4. Add Meat and Veggies: Stir in the chopped roast beef, sautéed peppers and onions, salt, and black pepper into the cheese mixture until thoroughly combined. Optionally, reserve 1 tablespoon of this mixture for garnish.
  5. Assemble the Dip: Spread the combined dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. Optionally, sprinkle the reserved meat and vegetables on top as a garnish.
  6. Bake Covered: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly.
  7. Finish Baking Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 2-3 minutes to get a slightly browned top.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley and sliced green onions over the dip. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to make mixing easier and ensure a smooth texture.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss cheese if preferred.
  • For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the mixture.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers like toasted baguette slices, tortilla chips, or fresh veggie sticks for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.
