Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
- 16 butter lettuce leaves
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the hoisin sauce, low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Set this sauce aside for later use.
- Cook the ground chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook for 6–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it’s fully browned and cooked through.
- Add aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger into the cooked chicken. Cook for about 1 minute until the mixture becomes fragrant.
- Add crunchy ingredients: Mix in the finely chopped water chestnuts and sliced green onions to the skillet, combining well with the chicken.
- Incorporate the sauce: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the chicken mixture. Stir well and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the chicken.
- Assemble the wraps: Spoon about 1/4 cup of the warm chicken mixture into the center of each butter lettuce leaf.
- Serve: Serve the lettuce wraps immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use ground turkey or tofu as alternatives for a different protein option.
- For added heat, sprinkle some red chili flakes or add sriracha sauce to the hoisin sauce mixture.
- Butter lettuce can be substituted with iceberg or romaine lettuce if unavailable.
- Make sure to cook the chicken thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F for food safety.
- These wraps are best enjoyed immediately to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.
