Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 tablespoon oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2-3 cups water (or broth as alternative)
- 1-2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules (or beef bouillon)
- 1 (24-oz) jar tomato basil sauce
- 1 (12-oz) box bowtie pasta (uncooked)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 heaping tablespoons cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Brown beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add the ground beef and cook until fully browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat. Stir in salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and tomato paste to blend the flavors evenly.
- Add liquids: Pour in 2 cups of water along with the chicken bouillon granules. Then add the jar of tomato basil sauce. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Cook pasta: Add the uncooked bowtie pasta to the simmering sauce. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 12 to 14 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep the pasta from sticking or burning. Add additional water quarter cup at a time if the mixture looks too dry or pasta is undercooked. Avoid stirring too frequently to prevent a mushy texture.
- Finish: Once the pasta is tender and cooked through, remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the shredded mozzarella cheese and cover to let it melt. In a small bowl, mix the cottage cheese with grated parmesan and spoon it evenly over the skillet lasagna. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use broth instead of water and omit bouillon granules if preferred, for richer flavor.
- Draining the browned beef before adding seasonings prevents excess grease in the sauce.
- Adding water incrementally helps achieve perfect pasta texture without overcooking.
- Covering after adding mozzarella helps cheese melt smoothly without drying out.
- Serving immediately maintains the perfect consistency of the cheeses and pasta.
