Description

This Jalapeño Popper Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer bursting with the spicy kick of jalapeños and topped with a crispy, golden breadcrumb and Parmesan crust. Perfectly baked until bubbly and golden, this dip is ideal for parties or casual gatherings and pairs wonderfully with crackers or tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Dip Base

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder

Cheese and Jalapeños

  • 1 can (4 ounces) diced jalapeños, drained
  • 2 ¼ cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, divided

Topping

  • 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley (optional)

For Serving

  • Crackers or Tortilla Chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Dish: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch deep dish pie plate or an 8×8 inch baking dish thoroughly with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Cream Cheese Base: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and sour cream. Using an electric hand mixer, beat the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well incorporated.
  3. Add Jalapeños and Cheeses: Stir in the drained diced jalapeños, shredded mild cheddar cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup). Mix thoroughly to ensure all components are well distributed. Then, spread this creamy mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Prepare Breadcrumb Topping: In a medium bowl, combine the Panko bread crumbs, remaining Parmesan cheese (1/4 cup), and olive oil. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated with oil and cheese. Evenly sprinkle this mixture over the top of the dip to create a crispy crust when baked.
  5. Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the dip is hot and the breadcrumb topping turns golden brown and crispy.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and, if desired, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color and freshness. Serve warm with crackers or tortilla chips and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • For milder flavor, rinse the diced jalapeños before draining to reduce heat.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened to achieve a smoother dip base.
  • You can substitute mild cheddar with sharp cheddar for a bolder flavor.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan yields better texture and flavor compared to pre-grated.
  • Serve immediately for optimal warmth and crispiness; leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
