Ingredients
Scale
Matcha Mixture
- 3.2 g – 4 g matcha powder
- 12 g honey
- 1/8 tsp kosher salt
- 1/8 tsp ground vanilla or vanilla bean paste
- 80 g warm water at 115°F (46°C)
Milk
- 100 g creamy house blend nut milk (such as almond, cashew, or oat milk)
Other
- Ice cubes (as needed)
Instructions
- Prepare the Matcha Bowl: Add honey, kosher salt, and ground vanilla into a matcha bowl. Use a small fine mesh sieve or tea strainer (chakoshi) to sift the matcha powder into the bowl to avoid clumps.
- Bloom the Matcha: Gently pour warm water (about 115°F) over the matcha in a circular motion. Stir with the chasen (bamboo whisk) in circular motions to dissolve the ingredients, then whisk vigorously in zig zag motions for about 1 minute until the matcha is super foamy. Use your wrist for swift movements to aerate and froth the tea properly.
- Assemble the Latte: Fill a glass with ice cubes, pour the whisked matcha over the ice, then top with your creamy house blend nut milk. Stir gently to combine.
- Alternative Frother Method: Add warm water, matcha, vanilla bean paste, and kosher salt into an electric frother set to cold frothing. While frothing, slowly stream in the honey to prevent sticking. Pour the frothy matcha over a glass filled with ice, then add the milk. Stir lightly and enjoy immediately.
- Serve: Enjoy your refreshing Iced Matcha Latte immediately. It’s best consumed fresh, though making a second one is highly recommended!
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality matcha powder for the best vibrant green color and taste.
- The water temperature is important; too hot can burn the matcha and make it bitter, while too cold won’t bloom the tea properly.
- The house blend nut milk can be substituted with any creamy milk alternative according to preference.
- Adjust honey quantity to taste for a sweeter or less sweet latte.
- If you do not have a chasen, a small whisk or frother can be used to mix, but traditional whisking enhances the texture.
