Description

Decadent Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a simple yet elegant treat, perfect for any occasion. Fresh, ripe strawberries are dipped in smooth, melted chocolate and optionally adorned with toppings like sprinkles, nuts, or shredded coconut. This delightful dessert is quick to prepare and sure to impress!

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberries

  • 1 lb (approx. 18-24) fresh, ripe strawberries, firm with green caps

Chocolate Coating

  • 10-12 oz (280-340g) good quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white), chopped or chips
  • 1-2 teaspoons virgin or refined coconut oil (optional, but recommended)

Optional Toppings

  • Sprinkles
  • Chopped nuts
  • Shredded coconut
  • Contrasting chocolate for drizzle

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberries: Gently wash the strawberries under cool water, keeping the green caps intact. Pat each strawberry completely dry with paper towels to remove all moisture, which can interfere with the chocolate coating. Place the strawberries in the refrigerator to chill for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Melt the chocolate using a double boiler method by placing a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, melt the chocolate in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring between intervals. Add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil if using to achieve a smooth, glossy finish. Avoid overheating the chocolate.
  3. Dip Strawberries: Hold each chilled strawberry by its cap and dip it into the melted chocolate, covering about three-quarters of the fruit. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off, gently scraping the bottom against the rim of the bowl.
  4. Add Toppings: Immediately after dipping each strawberry, sprinkle on your choice of toppings such as sprinkles, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut while the chocolate is still wet, to ensure they stick.
  5. Set and Chill: Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely set and has a glossy finish.

Notes

  • Ensuring the strawberries are completely dry is crucial to prevent the chocolate from seizing or not sticking properly.
  • Coconut oil is optional but helps the chocolate melt smoothly and gives a nice shine when set.
  • Use good quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • Store finished chocolate-covered strawberries in the refrigerator and best consumed within 1-2 days for freshness.
