Ingredients
Scale
Strawberries
- 1 lb (approx. 18-24) fresh, ripe strawberries, firm with green caps
Chocolate Coating
- 10-12 oz (280-340g) good quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white), chopped or chips
- 1-2 teaspoons virgin or refined coconut oil (optional, but recommended)
Optional Toppings
- Sprinkles
- Chopped nuts
- Shredded coconut
- Contrasting chocolate for drizzle
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: Gently wash the strawberries under cool water, making sure to leave the green caps on. Pat them completely dry with paper towels as any moisture can interfere with the chocolate coating. Chill the strawberries in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to ensure they are cold and dry before dipping.
- Melt Chocolate: Melt the chocolate by placing it in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler). Alternatively, melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth. Add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil if desired to enhance shine and texture. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate.
- Dip Strawberries: Hold each chilled strawberry by its green cap and dip it into the melted chocolate, coating about three-quarters of the berry. Let excess chocolate drip off, gently scraping the bottom of the strawberry against the bowl rim to remove extra chocolate.
- Add Toppings: While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle on any desired toppings such as sprinkles, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut. You may also drizzle with contrasting melted chocolate for an elegant finish.
- Set and Chill: Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until the chocolate coating is firm and glossy. Serve chilled for best texture and taste.
Notes
- Ensure strawberries are completely dry to avoid chocolate seizing up or sliding off.
- Use good quality chocolate for best flavor and smooth coating.
- Coconut oil in the chocolate helps create a shiny finish, but it is optional.
- Store chocolate covered strawberries in the refrigerator and consume within 1-2 days for best freshness.
- Be gentle when handling dipped strawberries to keep the chocolate coating intact.
