Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Base
- 1 box brownie mix
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
Mousse Topping
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Decoration
- 1/2 cup whipped cream
Instructions
- Prepare the brownie base: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan. Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions, incorporating the vegetable oil, eggs, and water to form the batter.
- Bake the brownie: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow the brownie to cool completely in the pan.
- Make the mousse topping: Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until warm but not boiling. Pour the warm cream over the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and stir until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
- Mix the mousse: Let the chocolate mixture cool for a few minutes and then fold in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the cake: Pour the prepared mousse evenly over the cooled brownie base in the cake pan. Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours to allow the mousse to set firmly.
- Top with whipped cream: Just before serving, add a layer of whipped cream on top for extra creaminess and an elegant finish.
Notes
- Ensure the brownie is completely cooled before adding the mousse to prevent melting.
- Use high-quality semi-sweet chocolate for best flavor in the mousse.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours but overnight chilling improves texture and flavor even more.
- For a decorative touch, you can garnish with chocolate shavings or fresh berries on top of the whipped cream.
