Description

Butter Swim Biscuits are tender, buttery, and golden biscuits baked directly on a layer of melted butter that soaks into each piece. This easy recipe results in soft, flavorful biscuits perfect for breakfast or a comforting side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour (300 grams)
  • 1½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1¾ cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (1 stick)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s hot enough for the biscuits to rise and bake properly.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add Buttermilk: Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the biscuits light and tender.
  4. Prepare Baking Dish: Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8×8-inch glass baking dish, ensuring the butter covers the entire bottom.
  5. Transfer Dough: Turn the biscuit dough into the butter-coated baking dish and spread it into an even layer across the bottom.
  6. Score Dough: Using a bench scraper or sharp knife, cut the dough into nine equal squares to form individual biscuits.
  7. Bake Biscuits: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the biscuits turn golden brown and spring back when gently pressed.
  8. Rest and Serve: Let the biscuits sit for 5 minutes after baking to absorb the melted butter before serving warm.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough as it will make the biscuits tough.
  • Using glass baking dish helps the butter melt evenly and soak into the biscuits.
  • For flakier biscuits, you can chill the dough briefly before baking.
  • Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
