- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Potatoes
- 2-3 medium potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for potatoes)
Beef
- 500 grams lean beef mince/ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)
- Half of the spice mix (from above, reserved for beef)
Toppings
- Lettuce (shredded)
- Cheese (dairy-free or regular, as preferred)
- Pickle slices
Burger Sauce
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
- 1 teaspoon pickle juice (from the jar of pickles)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
- Prepare the spice mix: In a small bowl, combine the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
- Prep potatoes: Wash and cut the potatoes into chip-sized pieces. Use paper towels to pat them dry, removing any excess moisture to ensure crispiness.
- Season and cook potatoes: Place the potato pieces in a large mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the prepared spice mix. Toss thoroughly to coat the potatoes evenly. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30 to 40 minutes until golden and crispy. Alternatively, air fry the potatoes for approximately 20 minutes until crispy.
- Cook the beef: While the potatoes are cooking, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Once browned, sprinkle the remaining half of the spice mix over the beef. Continue cooking until the beef darkens and any excess moisture evaporates, ensuring the mince is well cooked and flavorful.
- Make the burger sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well, then taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Assemble the bowls: Divide the cooked crispy potatoes among serving bowls. Fill the remaining space in each bowl with shredded lettuce. Top with the cooked beef, cheese slices or shreds, and pickle slices. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce over the top and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can bake or air fry the potatoes depending on your preference and available equipment.
- If using air fryer, shake the basket occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Choose dairy-free cheese for a lactose-free option.
- Adjust the spice levels to taste if you prefer milder or spicier flavors.
- Store leftovers separately in airtight containers and reheat carefully to maintain crispiness.
