Description

This refreshing Blackberry Lemonade recipe combines sweet, tart blackberries with fresh lemon juice to create a vibrant and thirst-quenching summertime drink. Made from a homemade blackberry syrup simmered with sugar and water, itโ€™s easy to prepare and perfect for serving chilled over ice at gatherings or for a cool treat on a warm day.

Ingredients

Scale

Blackberry Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)

Lemonade

  • 4 cups water (total, including syrup water)
  • 1 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

Instructions

  1. Make the Blackberry Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, sugar, and fresh blackberries. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil while pressing the blackberries to release their juices. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sugar has fully dissolved and the syrup is infused with blackberry flavor. Then, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Strain the Syrup: Pour the syrup through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a large pitcher to separate the seeds and pulp from the liquid. Discard the solids, reserving only the smooth syrup for the lemonade.
  3. Finish the Lemonade: Add the 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and the remaining 3 cups of water to the blackberry syrup. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly. Chill the lemonade thoroughly in the refrigerator and serve over ice cubes for a refreshing drink.

Notes

  • For a thinner syrup, you can add extra water when boiling the blackberries if desired.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor, but bottled lemon juice can be substituted in a pinch.
  • Adjust sweetness by reducing or increasing the sugar according to taste.
  • This lemonade can be stored refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • Add fresh mint or lemon slices as garnish for an extra refreshing presentation.
