Ingredients
Scale
Cheese & Spread
- 1 (8 oz) round brie cheese
- 2–3 tablespoons pepper jelly (or fruit jam)
Puff Pastry
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Serving
- Crackers or apple slices, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll the thawed puff pastry sheet into an 11-inch square, creating enough size to fully encase the brie cheese.
- Assemble the Brie: Place the round brie cheese in the center of the puff pastry. Spread 2 to 3 tablespoons of pepper jelly evenly over the top of the brie to add a sweet and slightly spicy flavor contrast.
- Wrap the Brie: Fold the edges of the puff pastry over the brie, pleating the dough as needed to enclose the cheese completely. Use the beaten egg wash to brush along the overlapping pastry edges to seal and help it brown beautifully.
- Score the Pastry: Using a sharp knife, lightly score the top of the wrapped brie to create a decorative pattern. This also helps steam escape during baking.
- Bake: Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed, golden brown, and cooked through.
- Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the baked brie to rest for 10 minutes. Serve warm with crackers or fresh apple slices for dipping and spreading.
Notes
- Allow puff pastry to thaw completely for easier handling.
- Use a light dusting of flour when rolling the pastry to prevent sticking.
- The pepper jelly can be substituted with other fruit jams like apricot or raspberry for different flavors.
- Let the baked brie rest before cutting to avoid cheese leakage and ensure clean slices.
- Serve immediately after resting to enjoy the melty texture.
