Description

These classic 7 Layer Bars feature a deliciously crunchy graham cracker crust layered with sweetened condensed milk, butterscotch chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, coconut, and chopped pecans, baked to golden perfection for a delightful dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted

Layers

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1⅓ cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Line the pan with parchment paper, allowing the paper to hang over the edges to facilitate easy removal and clean, even squares.
  2. Make the Crust: In a bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs with the melted salted butter. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Evenly drizzle the entire can of sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crust, making sure to cover all areas.
  4. Layer the Toppings: Layer the butterscotch chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped pecans over the condensed milk in the order listed. Spread each ingredient evenly and gently press down with a fork to compact the layers slightly.
  5. Bake the Bars: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Immediately after baking, loosen the edges from the pan using the parchment overhang. Let the bars cool completely on a wire rack to set. Once cooled, cut into 24 squares with a sharp knife and serve.

Notes

  • To prevent sticking, ensure you use parchment paper that exceeds the edges of the pan to easily lift the bars out.
  • Pressing the layers gently helps the bars hold together when baked.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • You can substitute walnuts or almonds for pecans if preferred.
  • For a more chewy texture, slightly reduce the baking time by 2-3 minutes.
